CRS-34 continues the resupply programme into 2026, delivering cargo, science and spares to a station with roughly four years of funded operations remaining.
By this point the commercial resupply arrangement has run for more than thirteen years and delivered well over a hundred tonnes across two vehicle designs, having entirely replaced the government-owned cargo capability that preceded it.
The flights of this period are increasingly shaped by the end date. Experiments are selected partly on whether they can produce results before the laboratory closes, and hardware decisions weigh repair against the remaining operational life.
The successor arrangements are still uncertain. Several commercial stations are in development with NASA support, on the model that produced Crew Dragon — the agency as customer rather than owner — but none has yet flown.
Whether there is a continuously inhabited outpost in low Earth orbit after 2030 depends on decisions being taken now. The resupply flights, meanwhile, continue on schedule, which after a quarter of a century of permanent habitation is the least remarkable and most important thing about them.
